Beauty Empowered: Mirembe Wakholi-Seruga
Posted by Shades Of Ebony Beauty on 24th Jul 2020
We are thrilled to bits to introduce Mirembe Wakholi-Serugga for Beauty Empowered. The 24 year old Mother of two is the creator of Peace In The Promise, a platform which she uses to share messages of faith, encouragement and relatable life experiences. We couldn't resist the chance to share her inspirational story with you.
MEET MIREMBE
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Mirembe Wakholi-Serugga. I am a Ugandan-Aussie, born and raised in Western Australia. I am a daughter, sister, wife, and a mother of 2 beautiful babies! I’m the youngest of 4 girls, love Jesus, and love to encourage others!
I have a background in Mental Health Nursing and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Nursing) degree back in 2016 when I was 20 years old. I got married at 21, had my first born at 22, and just recently had my second born at 24 (yes, I have 2 under 2! Send help!). It has been a busy few years, with lots of lessons learned!
I have quite a goofy and somewhat animated personality, which is often amplified when there is another animated individual around. Though I can be quite bubbly when the situation calls for it, I truly cherish my alone time – probably because I exert so much energy when I’m with others, so I need my “me time” to wind down!
Having worked in the Mental Health sector and having endured mental challenges myself (ongoing dissociation from the age of 13, PPD after having my first born), Mental Health is an area that is close to my heart!
I am passionate about encouraging others to live a full life, right here, right now – rather than waiting for the “perfect conditions” in order to truly live. Peace truly IS attainable right now, even amidst the storm! My life can attest to this.
Talk to us about Peace In The Promise?
Peace In The Promise, simply put, is a platform for encouragement.
The purpose of Peace In The Promise is to encourage others that they are not alone in this walk, and to let the multitudes know that peace is attainable right now, even if all the pieces of your life don’t appear to be together just yet.
I do this through multiple avenues:
My YouTube – where I share encouraging videos, personal stories & reflections, and fun lifestyle content
My Blog – where I do much of the above, in written form (if you enjoy reading, my blog is definitely for you!)
My Instagram – where I share small snippets of my Blog and YouTube content to encourage others as they scroll through their feed.
My Facebook – where I also share small snippets of my Blog and YouTube content to encourage others as they scroll through their feed.
Fun Fact: Peace In The Promise is actually a fun play on words. My name translated into English is “Peace”, so, it is quite literally me (Peace) living in the promises of God over my life (In The Promise), as much as it is also stating that we can all have supernatural peace in the written and spoken promises of God.
What motivated you to create Peace In The Promise?
The idea began several years ago when I desired to start a blog where I could write encouraging and reflective posts. I wanted to be the encouragement and voice of hope that I was so desperately longing for in that season. I had no idea then of what Peace In The Promise would amount to; I had a vision without fully understanding the depth of it. I was a young woman with faith, passion, a WordPress website, and a draft blogpost. I forgot about the idea, then had my son in 2018. After a tough year, I remembered the concept and, through many amazing ways, God gave me the official push to go ahead with the idea!
Who’s your target audience?
Ideally, anyone in need of encouragement! However, given the nature of my testimonies, my current stage in life, and my lifestyle content, I would say that my target audience gravitates towards women in their 20s & 30s. In saying that, I don’t assume that this is only this group that can be impacted by Peace In The Promise, as I know of individuals outside of this select group that have also been positively impacted.
What does peace mean to you?
A sense of rest, contentment, hope, and trust for one’s future. It is not dependent on my circumstances, rather, it is given to me by – and found securely in – Christ. There, it cannot be moved. Rain, hail, or shine, I can rest in the peace of God.
I don’t have to wait for my circumstances to be perfect in order to live a full life of peace and contentment – I can start right now, as Christ has given me a gift of peace that this world cannot take away (in my blogpost “ Hope For Healing ” I share a personal experience of mine that led to this realization).
What advice would you give to a young, black, married couple?
Be your authentic selves! Who has got the time to put on a performance? For who? For what? No thank you!
Leave room for growth – for yourself and your partner! Extending a bit of grace goes a long way, and though it is not always easy to give out, it is certainly appreciated when you are the recipient of it.
Make the effort to choose communication over assumption. Miscommunication by way of jumping to conclusions (or, as my husband often says “Jumping to Africa”) is the genesis of many unnecessary arguments.
Find a community of supportive, likeminded individuals to encourage you and spur you on.
Actively study & learn about your spouse, physically, spiritually, mentally, & emotionally. You may not always be straight A students, but what matters is you both showing up and being willing to learn. It’s an ongoing class, as you are both growing and evolving each day, but committing to put the effort in to know and understand your spouse in all seasons will benefit your relationship!
Know that you aren’t alone! We’re all out here figuring this stuff out as we go along, with some help along the way. Take the pressure off and laugh a little.
What’s your favorite thing about motherhood?
I can’t bring myself to pick just one! The squeals of laughter, the smiles, the spontaneous kisses, and cuddles. I am also really enjoying seeing my son’s personality flourish. If I’m honest, I’m constantly learning how to encourage him to be his authentic self, rather than limiting him to only reflect what is convenient for me.
Motherhood is a privilege to me. It didn’t stumble upon me by accident; I have been specifically selected to raise these kids in the way that they need. That is both a privilege and honor. I still can’t quite figure out how I got chosen for the job!
When did you choose your faith and how does it guide your everyday life?
I gave my life to Jesus back in 2013, when I was about 17. I was literally in my sisters bedroom watching YouTube videos of Meagan Good and Devon Franklin on her laptop and I had an overwhelming awareness of the presence of God, my sin, and his love for me – it was like nothing I had ever experienced before! I found myself praying for real, repenting, and asking God to guide me. And here I am today!
It has been an adventure, to say the least, filled with triumphs and challenges. I am far from perfect, but I serve a God who is! He is my sanity, my guide, my voice of reason & truth, my best friend, and my venting station. I need him. He is my compass; letting me know where I need to be. Without him, there would be no Peace In The Promise, or me.
What inspires you?
Creation. To me, it reflects the very creativity of God himself. Being able to experience the breath taking beauty of a sunset, stepping outside to breathe in the crispness of the evening air, even studying the beautiful intricacies of the human face – such things never cease to make me stop, and soak in the wonder that is all around me.
My imagination. I have an active imagination – one may even call it “overactive”. I have a whole other universe operating in my mind. I am inspired by the many ideas and concepts that pop up amidst the clutter that can often be found in there!
My trials. Believe it or not, they give me something to learn from and encourage others with! It may be my competitive nature, but something within me just doesn’t want to sit by and let the trials “win”.
I have also developed a newfound appreciation for the city in which I dwell, Perth. It has a reputation of being small with limited opportunities, however, I see so many upcoming and established creatives making their mark. I am inspired by their dedication and commitment.
